Marlene Walli Shade ’77, M ’84

Architect Marlene Shade of Fairfax, Va., has been elected president of the
1,035-member Northern Virginia chapter of the American Institute of Architects
(AIA).
A senior associate and project manager with PSA-Dewberry, she has managed
several of the firm’s most notable projects in the public sector. Recent
projects include the University of Virginia Breast Care Center in Charlottesville
and the Prince George’s Hospital Maternal and Child Care Center in Cheverly,
Md.
LEED-certified, Shade has played an instrumental role in training and mentoring
architects and interns in sustainable design strategies and green building
technology. She’s also been an advocate for accessibility measures.
While Shade is president of the Northern Va. Chapter of AIA, across the river
alumnus R. Todd Ray ’90 is president of the D.C. chapter.
