What sets the Cooperative Education Program apart from similar work-related experiences is the emphasis it places on engaged-learning. Co-op is a more in-depth program where each student's experience is monitored by the co-op faculty.
Once on assignment, students are expected to remain in contact with their advisor. At the beginning of each rotation, students need to fill out and submit a Student Data Sheet with up-to-date contact information. Co-op faculty attempt to visit each student on assignment during at least one of his/her co-op rotations to assess the student's progress as well as to ensure the quality of the experience. And as each rotation comes to an end, students are required to complete an Evaluation of the Assignment and Assignment Report.
Co-op employers assign a mentor/supervisor to each student. The mentor/supervisor completes performance evaluations on students at the end of each rotation. Co-op faculty use the employer's performance evaluation as well as the student's assignment evaluation and report to assess the learning experience.
