Centers of Economic Excellence Program
In 2002, the S.C. General Assembly adopted the Centers of Economic Excellence Program (CoEE) initiative, which sets aside lottery funding for endowed chairs at the three state research universities in areas that can impact economic development.
The CoEE funds can be drawn down only when the respective university demonstrates that it has received matching funds from the private sector. Then these state funds match – dollar-for-dollar – the private-sector investment.
To date, the state has awarded Clemson $47 million in support of 13 endowed chairs.
CoEE Endowed Chairs at Clemson University:
- Dr. Thomas R. Kurfess, BMW Endowed Chair in Manufacturing
- Dr. Todd H. Hubing, Michelin Endowed Chair in Vehicular Electronic Systems Integration
- Dr. John C. Ziegert, Timken Endowed Chair in Automotive Design and Development
Remaining CoEE Chairs to be filled:
- Automotive Systems Integration
- Regenerative Medicine
- Photonics/Optical Materials
- Electron Imaging
- Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety
- Supply Chain, Optimization and Logistics
- Urban Ecology and Restoration
- Molecular Nutrition/Nutrigenomics
- Advanced Fiber-based Materials
