JoAn Hudson, John Balleto and Stephen Foulger

JoAn Hudson, Ph.D.

Senor Scientist and Director of Clemson University Electron Microscopy Facility

Utilizing the lab's powers microscope capabilities, Dr. Hudson is able to accelerate solutions for industry partners and researchers by characterizing materials at the atomic and molecular level. The recent addition of of a $3.8 million Hitachi H9500 electron microscope solidifies the lab's reputation for being the most advanced university electron microscope lab in the country.

John Ballato, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Material Science and Engineering, Clemson University

Director and founding member of the center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies (COMSET)

A distinguished research and sought-after speaker, Dr. Ballato holds 15 U.S. and international patents and is internationally recognized for his research in optical fibers. This revolutionary fiber has many applications, including the automotive industry, the medical field and the military. Through this technology, surgeons can use hair-width optical fiber to perform less intrusive procedures, and the military can use light-carrying optical fiber to detect the presence of harmful agents or keep soldiers out of harm's way.

Stephen H. Foulger, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Clemson University

Associate Director of the Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies (COMSET)

A key aspect of Dr. Foulger's research focuses on enhanced display technology in unprecedented ways. Innovations in polymer research will eventually result in computer screens that are significantly brighter than current technology, and thin and flexible enough to be worn on the arm of military personnel.
