Dual Degree Program in Europe

The Transatlantic Exchange in Economics (TREE) is a dual degree program with Clemson and two European partners, the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands and the Universite’ catholique de Louvain in Beligium. Both of our European partners are rated among the top universities in the world.

Clemson students spend one semester at Maastricht in the Netherlands, and two semesters at Louvain in Beligium. A generous stipend is available to support our students living costs while studying in the TREE program. Preparation for this program in economics, mathematics, and the French language is essential, as the coursework is challenging, and, while in Belgium, the language of instruction is French!

The rewards from the cultural and intellectual experience in the TREE program more than compensate for investment in learning a second language. On completion of four years of study, students will have earn bachelors degrees from both Clemson and Louvain, while being given an incomparable international experience. TREE is featured in an August 2009 Newsweek article, “The New Way to Study Abroad.” Student stipends are funded by grant P116J060029 from the Foundation for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education. More information on the program is available on the FIPSE website, in this brochure, and by contacting Professor Raymond Sauer, the economics department chair (sauerr-at-clemson.edu).
