HEHD 4100 – 6100 Leadership Behavior and Civic Engagement

HEHD 4100 - 6100 (3 credit hours) - The “How” of Leadership 

Leadership Behavior & Civic Engagement at Clemson UniversityThe purpose of this course is to introduce students to the critical role of leadership development in civic engagement. Students will couple new concepts of social justice civic engagement with theoretical foundations from HEHD 4000 to complete a comprehensive theory to practice project. Students will be challenged to commit themselves to long-term, active involvement as agents of change for the common good.

The student will:

  • increase understanding of leadership theories and concepts associated with social change;
  • engage in team building activities and conversations to enhance personal growth and development;
  • develop an appreciation for and exercise commitment to issues of social injustice;
  • recognize and appreciate the role of the servant leader in society;
  • develop a personal philosophy of service and leadership through critical analysis of social issues, reflection and practice;
  • discuss and examine the critical issues of diversity, social justice, community and civic responsibility with leadership and service;
  • explore personal values with respect to leadership and service;
  • be encouraged to be life-long learners and advocates for social change; and
  • engage in opportunities for effective reflection.
