Clemson UniversityClemson University was founded in 1889, a legacy of Thomas Green Clemson, who willed his Fort Hill plantation home and other property to the state of South Carolina to establish a technical and scientific institution. The University's 1,400-acre campus is in Clemson, S.C.

Clemson is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral/Research University-Extensive, a category comprising less than 4 percent of all universities in America. More than 16,000 men and women select from 70 undergraduate and 100 graduate degree programs offered by the University's five academic colleges.

The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's, master's, specialist and doctoral degrees. U.S.News & World Report ranks Clemson 24th among all public national universities in 2019. TIME magazine selected Clemson as the 2001 Public College of the Year.
