Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Research

David BarrettAssociate Dean of Academic Affairs and Research, David E. Barrett, Ph.D. oversees research and graduate activities in the College of Education. As Associate Dean, Barrett helps to develop collaborative research initiatives with other academic units and works with individual faculty members to help them develop their research agendas and identify funding opportunities.

Since his appointment as Associate Dean in February 2015, David Barrett has established collaborative research groups with the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences (CECAS), the School of Computing and the Center for Workforce Development (also in CECAS). The Office of the Associate Dean provides seed funding for faculty research studies in the College of Education, as well as funding for graduate student travel grants. As Associate Dean, Barrett also reviews and helps to develop University policies and procedures for research, and evaluates pre-proposal submissions for external funding.

In addition to being Associate Dean, Barrett holds the title of Alumni Distinguished Professor. Previous academic appointments are Harvard Medical School/Children’s Hospital, Boston and Laboratory of Developmental Psychology, National Institute of Mental Health.
