The Generator's responsibilities

Everyone who generates hazardous waste must:

  • Be sure the waste is properly identified, i.e. you know what it is. Regulations prohibit the transportation and disposal of unknown materials.

  • Be sure the waste is properly labeled - including DHEC required language and contents. Preprinted labels are available from EHS.

  • Be sure that the waste container is closed when waste is not being added.

  • Be sure that the waste is properly stored.

  • Notify EHS - via a collection request - that waste needs to be removed from the satellite accumulation point.

These are things that only those generating the waste can do.
