Hazardous Waste Storage

Hazardous wastes must be placed into containers compatible with the waste; the simplest way to accomplish this is to put the used material back into the same type of container that it came in originally. EH&S can provide containers on request.

When you re-use a container, be sure to remove or deface the original label and replace it with a hazardous waste label. Also be sure that the container isn't rusted, broken, or have holes in it. It must be compatable with the intended contents!

The wastes must be stored in a safe manner - flammable materials in a flammable storage cabinet or water reactive materials in a dry place, for instance - just as you would store the original materials.
