Dr. R. "Judd" Diefendorf, McAlister Professor Emeritus of Ceramic Engineering, recieved the Ishikawa Prize this past October in Tokyo. The award is given to an industrial person or professor who has applied new methods or systems of management that are of value to mankind. The award has been given since 1970 by the Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers. It is usually bestowed upon a Japanese citizen.

The Emeritus College began Phase III of the Town ‘n Gown Oral History Project in the fall of 2007. The initial project, funded by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, involved 20 Dixon Fellows from the Honors College interviewing more than 100 retired faculty and community leaders. Phase II, which was funded through the Creative Inquiry project, involved analysis of the content of the interviews being depicted through a library exhibit. Phase III involves students interviewing new Clemson faculty hires and new community business leaders. Click here to learn more about this project and what is involved.

On November 1, 2007 Emeritus Joe Turner received an ABET Fellow Award during the ABET 75th Anniversary Celebration and 2007 Awards Banquet. ABET, Inc. is the recognized US accreditation agency for programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. The citation reads "For being both pioneer and faithful proponent of accreditation for programs in computing, providing leadership and selfless contributions to the computing disciplines and American higher education.”
