Updates in Benefits

SHP Offers New Immunizations for Children through age 18

Hepatitis A and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) have been added to the list of State Health Plan Well Child Care immunizations. The SHP pays the full cost of the shots when they are given by a network doctor. Please reference page 44 of the 2007 Insurance Benefits Guide for the recommended immunization schedule. If a covered child missed receiving immunizations at the recommended time, the plan will pay for “catch-up” immunizations through age 18. http://www.eip.sc.gov/publications/Stat_Health_Plan.pdf

For more information, contact Medi-Call at 803-699-3337 (in the Greater Columbia area), 800-925-9724 (in South Carolina, nationwide and Canada) or your child’s physician.

New Drug Available to SHP Tobacco Users Who Want to Quit

Chantix, a drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is available to State Health Plan subscribers who are trying to stop using tobacco through the Free & Clear® Quit For Life™ Program. If you are a participant in the Quit for Life Program™ and are interested in Chantix, call your Quit Coach. For more information, go to www.freeclear.com.

You Can Decrease Drug Costs

Prescription drugs are one of the major costs of our self-insured health plans. My Rx Choices is an integrated part of Medco’s Web site for registered users at www.medco.com. Members of other health plans can also save money by using generic drugs. For more information, go to www.bluechoicesc.com if you are a BlueChoice Health Plan member and to www.cigna.com if you are a CIGNA member.

Speed Up Incapacitation Approval

If submitting an Incapacitated Child Certification Form for a dependent between the ages of 19 and 25, be sure to include a letter from the child’s school, giving the date the child withdrew.
