EIP to Offer State Vision Plan

The Employee Insurance Program (EIP) is pleased to announce it has selected EyeMed Vision Care as the provider of the new State Vision Plan. This voluntary, employee-paid program begins January 1, 2010. For more information, please access link above to The Insurance Advantage.

What You Need to Know for Open Enrollment

During open enrollment, which occurs in odd-numbered years, you have more options than you do during annual enrollment. Open Enrollment is October 1 - 31, 2009. Any change you make will go into effect on January 1, 2010. To make the best decision, review the coverage you have now by visiting MyBenefits online. http://www.eip.sc.gov/mybenefits/

MetLife Becomes New Life Insurance Provider

Beginning January 1, 2010, the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, better known as MetLife, will replace The Hartford as the carrier for Basic, Optional and Dependent Life Insurance for subscribers covered through the Employee Insurance Program (EIP). For more information please access link above to The Insurance Advantage.

Rate Increase in 2010 for Blue Choice, CIGNA and Dental Plus Subscribers

Effective January 1, 2010, BlueChoice and CIGNA health plan premiums will increase. Dental Plus premiums will also increase approximately 7%.  Please refer to the charts on page 9 in The Insurance Advantage for 2010 premiums.

Act Now to Avoid Tobacco Surcharge

October 31 is the deadline to certify with the Employee Insurance Program (EIP) whether or not you use tobacco. Effective January 1, 2010, a $25-a-month surcharge will be added to the health insurance premium of subscribers who use tobacco or who cover family members who do. You will pay this charge, unless you certify no one covered under your health insurance uses tobacco, and no one has used it during the past six months.

Subscribers have two ways to certify whether they or any of their dependents use tobacco:

- Online Preferred Method through Employee Insurance Program (EIP) at MyBenefits. http://www.eip.sc.gov/mybenefits/ . Certifying online is fast and easy.

- By completing and mailing the Certification Regarding Tobacco Use form directly to Employee Insurance Program (EIP).

If You're Ready to Quit

EIP cares about your health, and would like everyone to be eligible for the non-tobacco-user premium. Help is always available for those who want to quit.

State Health Plan and BlueChoice Health Plan subscribers and their covered dependents can participate in the Free & Clear Quit for Life by calling 866-QUIT-4-LIFE (866-784-8454).

CIGNA HMO subscribers can call 866-417-7848 to participate in the CIGNA Quit Today Smoking Cessation Program.
