Alcohol & Safety Tips
Signs of Alcohol
Poisoning:
Confusion, stupor
or coma; person cannot be roused
Vomiting
Seizures
Slowed or irregular breathing
Low body temperature, bluish skin, paleness
What you SHOULD do:
DO know the signs
and symptoms.
DO get help immediately. Call 911 or the campus police at (864) 656-2222. Notify your RA or another person in charge.
DO roll the person
on his/her side to prevent choking.
DO ensure that
airways are clear of vomit.
DO gather as much
information as possible about how much alcohol the person has
consumed.
What you SHOULD NOT
do:
DON’T put
the person in a cold shower.
DON’T allow the person to “sleep it off.” Sleeping is very different from passing out!
DON’T try to exercise the person.
DON’T worry about getting the person into trouble. Saving a life is much more important. To learn more about Clemson's policy on alcohol-related amnesty, click here.
