What is Natural Resource Management?
Natural resource managers develop and implement management plans for the wise use of natural resources on private, state and federal lands and water bodies. Natural resource managers work with the entire array of fish and wildlife species, such as protection of endangered species, management of harvestable and of non-game species, and reduction of impact of nuisance species.
Employment Outlook
Potential public sector employers of graduates include the Environmental Protection Agency, the Army Corps of Engineers, the National Park Service, the Fish and Wildlife Service and other federal, state, and municipal resource management agencies. A few of the private sector employers would include the pulp and paper industries and agricultural industries in the state, utility companies, environmental management consulting firms and land development companies. Graduates of this program also will be well prepared for further graduate studies in natural resources and related fields.
As the land and water base for natural resource management continues to shrink and to be fragmented, the demand for natural resources managers who are broadly educated continues to increase, especially for those who are adept at bringing together stakeholders with conflicting goals and developing solid coalitions through adaptive management and compromise.
