Facilities
The interdisciplinary Environmental Toxicology program makes use of facilities in faculty members home departments including, but not limited to, those in Biological Sciences, Forestry and Natural Resources, and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences.
The Institute of Environmental Toxicology is housed in a 38,000 square foot research building in Pendleton, S.C. near the Clemson University campus. The analytical instrumentation at this facility consists of several gas chomatographs (GC) with a variety of detectors such as FID, ECD, FPD, NPD, and MSD, several high performance liquid chromatographs (HPLC) with a variety of detectors, an AA with flame and graphite furnace capabilities, an ICP/MS, and a Field Flow Fractionation system with light scattering detection. Also included are benchtop UV/Vis spectrophotometers and microplate readers, and a real-time PCR instrument.
Other resources include two greenhouses, constructed wetland, and mesocosm setups. Additionally, there is an animal care facility accredited by The American Association for the Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), used primarily for aquatic exposures.
