Agroterrorism

As a result of the September 11 terrorists attacks, there has been a growing interest in all forms of terrorism, including agroterrorism. Agroterrorism involves the act of any person knowingly or maliciously using biological agents as weapons against the agricultural industry and the food supply.

The Agricultural Bioterrorism Protection Act

In August of 2002, the Agricultural Bioterrorism Protection Act was passed, stating that all persons in possession of any listed biological agent or toxin must register with APHIS (See a list of biological agents/toxins here) within 60 days of the bill's passing. A notice indicating persons possessing any listed item may be given by calling Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) at (301)734-8896
