Assistant/Associate Professor - Field Crops Pathologist at Edisto Research & Education Center, Blackville, SC

Type of position:
The successful candidate will be a 60% Extension and 40% Research, 12-month tenure track faculty member in the Department of Entomology, Soils and Plant Sciences . The incumbent will work collaboratively with teams of scientists and engineers at the Edisto, Pee Dee, and Coastal RECs as well as faculty from the Clemson University campus.
Position Description :

The faculty member will work with graduate and undergraduate students, producers, county Extension agents, and industry specialists to develop strong Extension and Research programs in management of foliar fungal diseases of soybean, peanut, corn, cotton, and small grains. The successful candidate is expected to---

  • develop and lead a nationally recognized Extension and Research program focused on management strategies for foliar field crop diseases, including regularly publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals;
  • develop a strong extramurally funded research program;
  • develop and conduct statewide outreach programs to disseminate new knowledge on disease management;
  • and direct and advise graduate students and participate in graduate education.
Major focus area will be in production agriculture. Management of Asiatic Soybean Rust in the Southeastern United States will be a major area of Extension and Research programming. Other areas of research may include corn leaf blights, leaf spots of peanut, foliar diseases of cotton or small grains, or other diseases as they occur.The successful candidate will conduct on-farm tests, demonstrations, workshops and transfer technology via field days and printed and web-based media
Qualifications:
Candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Plant Pathology or a closely allied field.  Excellent communication skills and experience in soybean, peanut, corn, cotton and/or small grain production systems are preferred.  Experience with epidemiology or molecular diagnosis is desirable.
Salary:
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
