Varian Gas Chromatograph/Saturn Mass Spectrometer in the Multi-User Analytical Lab at Clemson University

Varian Gas Chromatograph/Saturn Mass Spectrometer (Varian Instruments, Inc.)

Gas chromatography is one of the most widely used analytical techniques. With the addition of a mass spectrometer the great resolution of the gas chromatograph is combined with the confirmation ability provided with the mass spectrometer. A Varian 3400 gas chromatograph is combined with a Saturn II mass spectrometer. The system also has a 8200 Varian autosampler with a capacity of 48 samples which allows for automatic operation. The mass spectrometer software also has a NIST library containing approximately 75,000 spectra for comparison to spectra obtained from samples. Control of all components is through a personal computer and associated chromatographic software.
