It’s Fire Prevention Week—Did you know that roughly half of the home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most people are asleep? Smoke alarms save lives. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. In fact, having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half!
National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) will use the week of October 4-10, 2015 to get the key message out to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement.
Barnwell City Fire Department and Barnwell County 4-H offer a 4-H Poster and Essay contest to promote Fire Safety Prevention. Using the National Fire Prevention Theme, the contest is open to students in Barnwell School District #45 grades K5-12. Posters and essays are submitted for judging with the winning entries on display during Fire Safety Fun Day held on the Saturday of National Fire Prevention Week.
