Holiday Decorating with Fresh Greenery

Fresh greenery is often used for holiday decoration in and around homes. This tradition has been popular in the United States since the 1800s. Most people use greenery from their own landscape which can provide a wide selection of fresh cuttings. However, be aware that you are making a pruning cut on the plant as you gather each branch. For this reason, it is wise to select each branch carefully before cutting. For more information on varieties to use, keeping greenery fresh in the home, and decorating safely, see HGIC 1753, Holiday Decorating with Fresh Greenery.
