The overall goal of the conference is to bring together geophysical specialists, with agricultural and non-agricultural backgrounds, so that new geophysical equipment, field procedures, data analysis methods, and applications can be evaluated for potential use in agricultural environments, both at field and watershed scales. The three conference objectives are:

  1. provide updated information to a wide audience (agricultural and non-agricultural backgrounds) on the status of geophysics as presently applied on agricultural landscapes
  2. delineate promising areas for research development in agricultural geophysics, specifically regarding potential advances in sensing equipment, field procedures, data analysis methods, and applications
  3. initiate the formation of specialized working groups to pursue funding opportunities and/or collaborative interactions within areas such as technology development, regional agricultural geophysics issues, opening lines of communication with other scientific near-surface geophysical societies having potential interest in agricultural applications, and outreach to the agricultural geophysics community outside the U.S.
Specific conference products will include:
  1. website development to keep interested parties updated on agricultural geophysics activities
  2. a published conference proceedings containing a “future of agricultural geophysics” white paper, invited speaker presentation summaries, and extended abstracts from research presented at a poster session(s).
