Beef Cattle Education & Programs

  • Extension works with livestock producers to help them improve efficiency of production and increase total farm income. It is important to focus on food quality, animal welfare and being good stewards of the environment.
  • Extension helps producers to focus on product evaluation, assists with performance testing, records and management, improving marketing, control of parasites, and using proper management skills and techniques. Information is distributed through a number of techniques such as newsletters, production meetings, workshops and individual farm visits. 
  • Extension assists producers in forming producer organizations and serves in an advisory capacity to many agencies and organizations.

Beef Cattle Information Databasebeef cattle
This is an Internet information database of Clemson Extension beef cattle publications, information and connections to related Internet web sites - such as breed associations, Cow Town, and other universities and organizations. It was created for the benefit of cattlemen, extension agents and agricultural professionals. Over 200 web pages have been published and updated. All projects related to programs listed here are referenced in this database.

Bull Testing in South Carolina
The Clemson Bull Test at the Simpson Experiment Station near Pendleton, SC is a silage based bull test program. This service and educational program is co-sponsored by Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service, SC Agricultural & Forestry Research System and Department of Animal & Veterinary Sciences, and the South Carolina Cattlemen's Association.

The Edisto Forage Bull Test
at the Edisto Research & Education Center near Blackville, South Carolina is a unique approach to cenbulltral gain testing bulls. This service and educational program is co-sponsored by Clemson University, Cooperative Extension Service, South Carolina Agricultural & Forestry Research System and Animal & Veterinary Sciences Department, and the South Carolina Cattlemen's Association.

IRM Beef Production Systems
Multi disciplinary, extension demonstration project on integrated resource management (IRM) of beef cattle and crop production. Educational tool to teach producers, extension agents and agricultural professionals about how to plan and implement recommended production practices into sustainable agricultural production systems. Program involves animal science, agronomy, agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, entomology and plant pathology.
