Sweetgum is a
commercially valuable tree. The wood takes a high polish in imitation of more expensive
varieties. It is widely used for furniture, cabinet wood, veneer, and pulp. The leaves are
star shaped and the twigs have corky ridges. The tree bears ball-like fruit.
