American Sycamore
Platanus occidentalis
The bark of the American sycamore is generally smooth, greenish-gray in color. The outer bark flakes off in large patches exposing the nearly white younger bark. The wood is difficult to split. Pioneers make the solid wheels of their ox carts from it.
