The leaves of the
scarlet oak turn brilliant scarlet in the autumn, giving this tree its common name. It is
also called the Spanish oak, as some say its long, narrow, pointed leaves resemble a
Spanish dagger. It is one of the fastest growing oaks on poor sites.
