Clemson University has a Sole-Source Supplier for Fire Alarm Systems and Components: Simplex-Grinnell. The decision whether to have the fire detection and alarm system as part of the construction contract or for CU to contract that work directly with the Sole Source Supplier will be made on a project by project basis. The CU Project Manager will provide that decision and can supply all contact information with the Sole Source Supplier.
The fire detection and alarm system shall comply with the latest edition of NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code as adopted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
The design of the fire alarm and detection system for facilities at Clemson University shall be a fully addressable fire alarm and smoke detection system. The design shall meet all applicable requirements in the most recently state adopted revision of IBC and NFPA 72, and shall comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The designed system shall be UL listed.
Clemson University desires that all new fire alarm control panels (FACP’s) be connected to the campus fiber network. Where possible all fire alarm cabling shall be run in appropriate electrical raceway systems. Consult with the Project Manager for any deviation from these guidelines.
The University contracts for its fire alarm services utilizing Simplex equipment for its components. Consult with the Project Manager for design requirements and coordination.
The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for the fire alarm system at Clemson is the University Fire Marshal.
