In concert with other conservation efforts at Clemson University, University Facilities supports the practice of signing electronic documents (PDF) using digital signatures. Our organization uses self-signed ids containing public-key cryptography as the basis for creating and managing digital signatures using Adobe Reader, available at Adobe's website as a free download.
We've created a brief tutorial which shows you how to create a digital identity that you can use to sign electronic documents, how to share a portion of that ID with others to prove that your signature is authentic, and how to certify signatures in documents that you are responsible for approving. Also, this tutorial requires Adobe Reader. While generally excellent alternatives, due to potential incompatibility issues we strongly advise against using Foxit Reader, Apple's Preview or other PDF viewers for digital signing. You can use Adobe Acrobat if you prefer, just note that some of the instructions that follow may vary due to dissimilarities with Acrobat's drop-down menus. Finally, feel free to jump ahead using the right-hand navigation.
