New Recycling Procedure

July 25, 2007

For many university buildings, a portion of the procedure for recycling pick up has changed.

The building custodial staff is responsible for collecting and bagging recycled material each Tuesday morning for a curb-side pickup. Many buildings have more than one pickup each week. For example, Cooper Library is normally serviced 4 times per week. The Tuesday morning collection is one of the four weekly pickups, but typically the only pickup in which the custodial staff is involved.

NOTE: for secured documents, you must call 656-2040 to schedule pickup. Secured documents will NOT be recycled or picked up at the curb side.

Zone 3, which includes more than 15 on-campus academic and administrative buildings, will trade in their chemical inventory for green cleaners and microfiber cloths. The green cleaning process is proven to be more healthy for building occupants. All on-campus buildings will be using the green cleaning method by the end of the summer.

Students Lighten Their Load

One student's trash is another person's treasure. Students who live on campus donated 16,000 pounds of non-perishable food, clothing and linens, small appliances and loft lumber to the Lighten Your Load program. This program collects unwanted items at the end of the spring semester and distributes them to charities such as the Salvation Army and Camp Salkehatchie.
