Utility Services

Utility Services

Department Overview

Clemson University’s mission of teaching, research, and public service depends on a number of resources to ensure that students, faculty and staff can learn and work in comfort and without distraction. University Facilities' Utility Services provides a steady supply of steam, chilled water, electricity, and potable water while striving to reduce overall energy consumption through efficient and effective energy management strategies. We're responsible for the campus electrical distribution system which includes electrical service to buildings, street and walkway lighting, as well as traffic signals. Utility Services also manages the operation and maintenance of all underground distribution lines for steam, chilled water, domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm water, and natural gas.

Furthermore, we maintain two chilled water plants, a central energy plant for steam co-generation and chilled water, and the wastewater treatment plant for the campus. Lastly, we're involved in engineering design and project management in support of both the utility distribution systems as well as the utility production assets.
