Faculty Senate

Engagement opportunities for the Faculty Senate are facilitated through the Faculty Senate Office.  The Senate participates in three major areas of faculty engagement throughout the year:

The Faculty Senate Office creates, coordinates, and facilitates, with campus experts, faculty development opportunities for the senate and Clemson faculty. This initiative began fall 2013 with an inaugural workshop, “New Media, New Opportunities.” This workshop gave participants opportunities to learn how to engage students, find research and funding opportunities, and pursue career advancement through social media.

The Faculty Senate is committed to serving the faculty of Clemson University. The senate also seeks to reach out to the broader community through service activities. In 2010-2012, the Faculty Senate partnered with the Staff Senate to raise funds to build a Habitat for Humanity House. For the past two years the SenateOars, the Faculty Senate rowing team, has participated in the Team Up for Clemson Regatta. This spring, we have planned a service day at the Clemson Childhood Development Center as a way of expressing gratitude to Marcia Barker for her 14-year service as the First Lady of Clemson.

The Faculty Senate Office coordinates several events related to faculty recognition: Alan Schaffer Faculty Senate Service Award, the Class of ’39 Award for Excellence, and the Centennial Professorship. The Faculty Senate also hosts an annual reception for The Great Class of ’39 and its honorary members, a dinner for new faculty hires and the Board of Trustees, along with an April reception welcoming new senators and thanking retiring senate members. New this fall, we added tours of areas of interest on campus such as the West End Zone and Brooks Center for the Performing Arts.
