1. Free lunch for faculty, staff May 7
Despite what you might have heard, there is such a thing as a free lunch when Clemson celebrates "State Employee Recognition Day" on Wednesday, May 7.
All faculty and staff members are invited to join the human resources office -- your hosts for this event -- for lunch, provided by Aramark, Clemson's exclusive food-service partner, and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, the nation's second largest Coca-Cola bottler, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.
Lunch will be served on Military Heritage Plaza between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The menu will include hot dogs and barbecue with all the trimmings, cole slaw, potato chips and beverages.
Some of Clemson's best-known musicians will entertain. The bluegrass quartet known as Any Old Time is made up of:
- Jan Murdoch, dean of undergraduate studies, on the mandolin;
- Jeff Appling, associate dean of curriculum, on the rhythm guitar;
- Dave Grigsby, interim senior vice provost, on the upright bass; and
- Fred Switzer, professor of psychology.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Hendrix Student Center ballroom
2. Friends establish fund for daughter of deceased employee
Members of the Daniel High School Class of 1981 have established a memorial fund to benefit the 11-year-old daughter of Sheila Randolph Haymon, who died April 26.
Haymon, a postal director I with Clemson's mailing and distribution center, died at Oconee Medical Center.
Anyone wishing to contribute to this memorial fund may do so in person at any branch of Community First Bank or by mailing a check to:
Community First Bank
449 Hwy 123
Seneca, SC 29678
Donations will be held until Dominique Haymon reaches age 18.
Services for Shelia Haymon will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Clemson United Methodist Church, located at 300 Frontage Road in Clemson. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
The family is at the residence, 1002 Jody Drive in Seneca.
