Staff Senate

Scholarships

2011-12 Recipients

In 1989, the Senate established an academic scholarship which was awarded to the child of a staff member. Today, ten $1,150 scholarships are awarded. Five of these scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, and five are based on financial need and academic performance.

These scholarships are made possible through the generous support from Clemson University staff. Funds are raised by payroll deduction and from other fund-raising efforts by the Senate.

Eligibility

The selection process is based on University policies that state, in part, that students must have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPR to be considered for scholarship assistance. Official registrar records are consulted to determine major, class, GPR and other selection criteria as of March 1.

Freshmen are eligible to receive these scholarships. They will be based on high school records, entrance examination scores and other qualifications established by the appropriate selection committee. Transfer students must have completed one full-time semester at Clemson University before they will be considered for University scholarships.

Selection Process

Recipients of the scholarships are selected by the University Scholarships and Awards Committee in early spring. Notifications will be mailed to recipients in May. Unused scholarships are awarded during the fall makeup period. Students who were accepted after the scholarship deadline, as well as students previously considered, will be reconsidered after October 15. Staff Senate scholarships are NOT automatically renewable. Applications must be resubmitted every year to be eligible.

Deadlines

Students who wish to be considered for a Staff Senate scholarship must complete the admission process by March 1. To be considered for a need-based scholarship, applicants must also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Contact Clemson's Student Financial Aid 864-656-2280 if you have questions about the FAFSA.

Applicants are eligible for consideration each year by submitting a letter identifying their parent(s) as a staff member by March 1. The letter must include the applicant's Clemson University ID number, their parent's name(s) and address, and a statement that they would like to be considered for a scholarship. No scholarship application is required, but admissions acceptance must be finalized before consideration can be given to prospective recipients.
