GOT RESEARCH?

"The most stimulating and memorable intellectual experiences are ones which are a journey without a clear destination, led by faculty members engaging a small group of students."

THE STORY...

Noted nutritionist and Clemson alumnus, Dr. Ann brings her "10 steps" approach to healthy habits to Clemson University in April. The physician-author is the keynote speaker at the Clemson Food Science and Human Nutrition Student Research Symposium held at the Madren Conference Center April 7. The event is open to the public at no charge.

The symposium showcases research projects from student led teams in the department of food science and human nutrition. The program is a result of Clemson’s effort to reinvent undergraduate education by engaging all students in team research activities and experiences. It also brings together university leaders and food science advisory council members.

Along with Dr. Kulze, Clemson Provost Dori Helms will speak about student-centered research as a path to university excellence. Heather Johnson, student research advisory council chairperson, will welcome guests and kick off the symposium. Attendees will not only hear about student research but also see a video about research team activities and view research posters. The symposium agenda is posted on the Internet at www.clemson.edu/foodscience.

Growing up in a family with a rich heritage in science and medicine, Dr. Kulze developed an interest in wellness and nutrition. She graduated from Clemson University with a degree in food science and human nutrition, going on for a M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina.

For 14 years Dr. Kulze worked as a family physician in her hometown of Charleston. She saw that most of the illness and chronic disease could have been avoided if her patients made better nutrition and lifestyle choices. Dr. Kulze left her clinical practice to devote her skills to teaching Americans how make the right nutrition and lifestyle choices as a way to minimize chronic disease and maximize vitality. She founded the consulting firm, Just Wellness, LLC, in 2002.

Dr. Kulze – known nationally as Dr. Ann – maintains a private wellness practice, provides corporate wellness consulting and is a sought-after public speaker. Currently, she is national spokesperson for Ruby Tuesday's Smart Eating Initiative and author of the book, Dr. Ann’s 10-Step Diet, A Simple Plan for Permanent Weight Loss and Lifelong Vitality.

Dr. Kulze lives with her husband and four children in Charleston, where she is involved in the Tri-County Health and Wellness Initiative, Center for Women and Wellness Council of Ashley Hall School.
