- Land Protection. The land protection partners
are in place and currently working on land acquisition and easement
projects. After grant funding, procedures will be developed for loan
terms in 2003. Lands will be protected from 2003-2006.
- Urban Sprawl Reduction. 2003-Production and release
of Beaufort growth maps. Georgetown/Myrtle Beach growth conference.
2004-production and release of Georgetown/Horry growth maps. 2003-2006-
Education, monitoring, advocacy on proposed infrastructure projects,
work with counties on planning and zoning, monitoring and implementation
of S.C. Conservation Bank Act.
- Conservation Forestry. 2003-Design materials and train extension
agents. 2004-2006- Disseminate materials and bring seminars to landowners,
recruit landowners to implement conservation forestry practices.
- Prescribed Fire. 2003 - 2004 - Work to achieve consensus
on forming a Prescribed Fire Council. 2004-Form the Council and hire
a coordinator. 2004 - 2006 -Work with the Council to identify the highest-priority
constraints on the use of prescribed fire and implement actions to address
them.
- Restoring River Hydrology. Savannah River: 2003:
Peer-reviewed reports on ecological flows, scientific workshops and
a final recommendation to ACOE in June. 2004-Integrate ecological flow
requirements into ACOE’s hydrologic models by June. Negotiate with key
stakeholders through June 2006. Santee River: 2004-Hydrologic models
and ecological characterizations completed. Fully engaged in relicensing
during the grant period as well as conducting education and outreach
to stakeholders. 2004 - 2006-Negotiations with dam operators and stakeholders.
Pee Dee River: 2005-Hydrologic models and ecological characterizations
completed. 2004 - 2006-Negotiations, education and outreach conducted.
