- Developed model for state agencies to work cooperatively with landowners and hunters to manage deer populations to provide quality recreational opportunities, reduce nuisance problems and sustain biodiversity
- Greatly increased the understanding of how forest management practices affect wildlife habitats through significant research findings with numerous species
- Established Clemson as a leader in developing management strategies for maintaining biodiversity in managed forests
- Created primary information base on forest industry hunt lease programs in the Southeast
- Authored or co-authored 297 publications (88 refereed, 69 technical, 97 abstracts, 43 popular)
- Obtained $2.5 million in extramural research support
- Directed and graduated 64 graduate students (currently advising 5 more)
- Directed 9 Ph.D. students that now serve in tenure-track faculty positions at major land-grant universities
- Received three research publication awards from the Southeast Section, The Wildlife Society
- Received the 1999 Deer Management Achievement Award (SE TWS)
- Received the 2004 Godley-Snell Award for Excellence in Agricultural Research, Clemson University
