Research Areas

I have focused my research in the field of applied wildlife ecology and conservation in an effort to both elucidate the ecological mechanisms underlying changes in wildlife populations. I have conducted research and monitoring programs in a variety of terrestrial and marine ecosystems and have studied avian, mammalian, and reptilian populations. Recently, I have been examining reproductive energetics of seabirds as a means to improve our understanding of population fluctuations in response to large-scale ecosystem changes. All of my research has been driven by management and conservation issues, although the results are often of both an applied and basic nature. My current and prior work has emphasized wildlife conservation with emphases in avian ecology, reproductive energetics, foraging ecology, marine ornithology, survey design and methodology, and urban ecology.
My current graduate students are conducting research on reproductive and foraging ecology of seabirds and shorebirds, habitat use and habitat requirements of native and invasive wildlife species, and urban ecology as it relates to wildlife conservation.
