Advanced Placement (AP Credit)
Advanced Placement (AP) examination grades should be sent directly to Clemson from the College Board. Grades of 3 or higher are considered for academic credit. Specific information can be found in the Undergraduate Announcements. A letter will be mailed to you in late July outlining any course credit that you will receive through the AP program. International Baccalaureate (IB)
Students scoring 5, 6 or 7 on the Higher Level IB examinations are, in most cases, eligible for college credit. Specific information can be found at International Baccalaureate Credit Policy or in the Undergraduate Announcements. See IB Credit Chart (PDF).
CLEP Examinations
A few Clemson departments accept credit for College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) subject matter examinations; however CLEP general examinations are not recognized. CLEP was designed primarily for adults with nontraditional learning experiences; it generally is not appropriate for freshmen. See the Undergraduate Announcements. for more information.
Transfer Credits
The TCEL (Transfer Credit Equivalency List) is a database containing the Clemson University course equivalencies for approximately 1200 accredited colleges and universities nationwide. Course equivalencies are evaluated through the Office of Admissions. Please be advised the TCEL is only a history of how courses have transferred to Clemson, and does not represent a comprehensive list of transferable coursework for any school. If there is a course you have previously taken that is not showing up on the TCEL, the course will have to be evaluated once you apply and are accepted to Clemson. The listing for each college shows course equivalencies only, and does not reflect any differences in credit hours between institutions.
The TCEL is a living document to which changes are continually being made. Evaluations for transfer credit by the Office of Admissions are based upon the best available information at the time. Revisions to a course evaluation may be made based on receipt of new information.
