The Be Smart (Basic Education for Senior Medicare Awareness to Restore Trust) About Your Finances and Medical Services education campaign is funded through a grant from the South Carolina Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging. Be Smart is a cooperative effort of Clemson Extension and the South Carolina Bureau of Senior and Long Term Care Services, along with the Council of Governments/Area Agency on Aging.

This program empowers senior citizens to protect their financial records, Medicare benefits, and themselves from being victims of consumer fraud. County Extension agents teach one-third of the program, and focus on record keeping information.

The key points of the Be Smart About Your Finances and Medical Services program are:

For consumer information or to report consumer fraud, contact the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs at 1-800-922-1594 or go to their website at http://www.scconsumer.gov/.
