Consumer Savvy

This 4-H Youth Development Curriculum is designed to teach basic consumer education skills and concentrate on the life skills of decision making; managing resources; and acquiring, analyzing, and using information. Consumer Savvy will help youth become informed and responsible consumers in today’s dynamic marketplace. This curriculum teaches about goods and services, needs and wants, using goals in consumer decision-making, exchange or barter, time value of money, gathering information, influences on decisions, writing a complaint letter, evaluating information on the internet and understanding the global economy. Youth can complete the activities in the three youth guides independently. The Helper’s Guide contains group icebreakers, activities and meeting suggestions. Interactive Web-based activities are available to reinforce the concepts taught in the curriculum.

The 4-H Consumer Savvy website has information that is available to download. Youth can also play the 4HCCS Consumer Savvy e-learning game called “Cyber Savvy Arcade.”

Consumer Savvy may be ordered online at http://www.n4hccs.org. For more information, contact Rebecca J. Travnichek at TravnichekR@missouri.edu.
