Dr. Deborah Thomason is a Family and Youth Development Specialist and Professor
with the Clemson
University Cooperative Extension Service. She was employed by Clemson
University as a County Extension Agent for five years. She has been a member
of the Family and Youth Development state staff since 1994, specializing in
the area of Family and Youth Development, and teaching undergraduate and graduate
Human Development classes. Dr. Thomason is also a Certified
Family Life Educator (CFLE) through the National
Council on Family Relations.
She completed her bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degrees at
the University of Georgia,
with an emphasis in Family Development and Education. She worked with Georgia
Cooperative Extension as a county agent for six years, and taught Family & Consumer
Sciences for three years in middle and high schools. In 1992, Dr. Thomason
completed her doctorate degree from Clemson in Vocational-Technical
Education, with an emphasis in Guidance and Counseling. Her research
area has been Life Skills Development in Rural and Non-Rural 4-H Youth and Building
Family Strengths. She has served as President for both the South
Carolina Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and
for the South
Carolina Association of Extension 4-H Agents.
