Dr. Deborah Thomason is a Family and Youth Development Specialist and Professor
with the Clemson
University Cooperative Extension Service. She has been a tenured faculty member in the Department of Family and Youth Development since 1994, specializing in the area of Families and Youth Development. Over her 25 year career, Dr. Thomason has taught undergraduate and graduate Human Development classes and worked with the State 4-H program. Dr. Thomason is also a Certified
Family Life Educator (CFLE) through the National
Council on Family Relations. Her current academic home is in Parks Recreation and Tourism Management.
She completed her bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degrees at
the University of Georgia,
with an emphasis in Family Development and Education. She worked with Georgia
Cooperative Extension as a county agent for six years, and taught Family & Consumer
Sciences for three years in middle and high schools. In 1992, Dr. Thomason
completed her doctorate degree from Clemson in Vocational-Technical
Education, with an emphasis in Guidance and Counseling. Her research
area has been Life Skills Development in Rural and Non-Rural 4-H Youth and Building
Family Strengths. She has served as President for the South Carolina Alpha Phi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, South Carolina Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and for the South Carolina Association of Extension 4-H Agents. She currently serves on the National Epsilon Sigma Phi Board and will serve as National President in 2011.
