Helping Build Clemson's Future

It's hard to turn around in central Florida without coming into contact with something built, influenced or otherwise made better by alumnus Frank M. Hubbard of Orlando.

Major projects of his company, Hubbard Construction, include work on Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, Orlando International Airport, Epcot Interchange, Orange County Convention and Civic Center, the University of Central Florida and Florida's Turnpike.

His philanthropic interests and accomplishments are equally impressive.

The Salvation Army, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Orlando Youth Center, YMCA, Orlando Science Center, Orlando Museum of Art, Historical Museum, and several colleges and universities are some of the many organizations and institutions he's supported both with revenue and leadership.

Fittingly, he was named National Outstanding Philanthropist a little over a decade ago by the National Society of Fund-Raising Executives in Nashville, Tenn., at the Grand Ole Opry. And he hasn't slowed down since.

Even though Hubbard didn't complete his BA degree, he is the holder of three honorary PhDs -- law, business administration and community service. He's also received Clemson's Distinguished Alumni Award.

Just as his business success has enabled him to support higher education, his own administrative experience has convinced him to make much of his support unrestricted so that it can go where the need is greatest. For example, when he and his wife, Ruth, established a $100,000 charitable gift annuity for Clemson, they designated it "unrestricted."
