Dr.
Luedeman has a BA in Mathematics (with distinction) from
Valparaiso University and a MA in Mathematics from Southern
Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. After earning
a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the State University at Buffalo,
he joined the faculty of Mathematical Sciences at Clemson
University in 1968. He has had a strong interest in professional
development having served as workshop leader at Rutgers,
The State University of New Jersey and other institutions.
He founded the South Carolina Center of Excellence in
Mathematics and Science Education in 1985. He has served
as a program officer at the National Science Foundation.
Dr.
Luedeman published over fifty articles on a variety
of topics in mathematics (ring theory, semigroup theory,
graph theory, mathematical biology) as well as a number
of articles on mathematics education research in journals
and popular pieces in the media. He holds joint appointment
as Professor of Mathematical Sciences in the College
of Engineering and Science and Professor of Mathematics
Education in the School of Education. His role with
the Clemson University G K-12 Project is to help teach
the Fellow's summer orientation course and be responsible
for project administration.
