Mentor
Expectations
- Mentors
will attend a 7-day workshop with GK-12 Fellows as follows:
- 22 July, 1:15-5 pm: Orientation for Mentors only
- 23-24 July, 1:15-5 pm: Meetings for Fellows and Mentors
- 25 July, 1:15-5 pm: Meetings for Fellows and Mentors; Start pairing preferences
- 26 July, 1:15-5 pm: Fellow/Mentor Pairings announced; Fellow/Mentor
Planning begins
- 29-30 July, 1:15-5 pm: Meetings for Fellows and Mentors
- Mentors
will work cooperatively with Fellows for ten hours each
week during the academic year. (Clemson University and
school scheduled breaks do not require Fellow/Mentor interaction.
- Mentors
will have Fellows attend a minimum of one school faculty
meeting.
- Mentors
will have Fellows attend a minimum of one department faculty
meeting.
- Mentors
will attend bi-weekly seminars at Clemson University.
- Mentors
will complete a paper due in April, 2004.
- Mentors
will jointly plan an inquiry-based activity with the Fellow,
class test the activity, and will jointly present it at
one of the bi-weekly seminar.
- Mentors
will have the Fellow observe one parent-teacher meeting.
- Mentors
will sign-off weekly on a time sheet for the fellows detailing
that they have spent a minimum of ten hours in the classroom
with the teacher.
- Mentors
will have the Fellow assist other teachers in the same
subject during the second semester.
- Mentors
will inform the Principal Investigator, Dr. Luedeman,
of any concerns and/or problems which develop.
- Mentors
will treat the Fellow as a colleague as opposed to treating
the Fellow as a teacher's aide or practice teacher.
For
these actions, the Mentor Teacher will receive a payment
at the end of each semester.
