Dr. John Wagner

Dr. John R. Wagner has taught a variety of geology and earth science courses since arriving in South Carolina in 1976. Prior to that time he taught at the secondary level in Pennsylvania for three years. He was elected President of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers in 1999 and has also served as chair of the Education Committee of the Southeastern Section of the Geological Society of America. Dr. Wagner is best known for his development work as co-author of the highly acclaimed South Carolina MAPS middle school curriculum and the NSF-sponsored SE MAPS materials that cover the entire Southeastern USA. In 1994, he was named Environmental Educator of the Year by the Environmental Education Association of South Carolina. He also served on several state committees that reviewed the state science curriculum standards. His role in the G K-12 Project is to visit, observe, and assist all the fellow-mentor pairs assigned to science classrooms.
