the explorer’s craft

The photographer Anderson Wrangle with his canoe at Fairfield Lake, near Cashiers, North Carolina.

For his expedition into the Savannah River watershed, Wrangle had to rebuild his motorboat. He also needed a smaller craft, a canoe, for the shallow mountain streams. The canoe had to be sturdy enough to carry Wrangle and his gear but light enough for portage.

So he built one.

Photo by Anderson Wrangle. For more about Wrangle and his work, please see pictures from an expedition or information on his most recent exhibition.
