Irfan Asif is the vice chair of academics and research, as well as the sports medicine fellowship director in the GHS Department of Family Medicine. He is certified in both family medicine and sports medicine. He has served as a team physician for all levels of athletics, including high school, collegiate and professional sports programs. He is also the associate editor for Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach.

Irfan is actively investigating several areas related to the prevention of sudden cardiac death in young athletes, including epidemiology, screening, resuscitation strategies, the effects of excessive exercise on the myocardium, and the psychological implications of being diagnosed with cardiac disease. His research has led to new screening protocols for cardiovascular disease in young athletes, both within the U.S. and abroad.
