Dr. Mike Devane is a practicing radiologist at GHS for more than 13 years and the medical director of Interventional Radiology at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He is also the Vice Chair for Academics and in his role is a research facilitator for the radiology department. In addition to these roles, he also serves as a clinical assistant professor of radiology at USC School of Medicine Greenville and the associate editor of the journal, GHS Proceedings, and serves on the GHS Cancer Care Committee.
Dr. Devane’s research focuses on interdisciplinary, radiology-related medicine. He has helped shape the implementation of an implantable PORT comparative effectiveness study as principal investigator and supervisor of Clemson graduate students.
In collaboration with the Department of Public Health Sciences at Clemson University, Dr. Devane and a team of researchers will investigate central venous port outcomes placed by Interventional Radiology and Surgery. Dr. Devane will be the representative from the Department of Interventional Radiology in this research effort, and will also be working on projects related to other topics in radiology and public health.
He is also involved in a research project with the Department of Radiology and the Department of Gastroenterology at GHS investigating ultrasound elastography and FibroSure serum test. This project assesses hepatic fibrosis in patients with hypoplastic right heart syndrome status post Fontan procedure. He is a lead investigator with Gary Abrams, MD.
Dr. Devane has co-authored five posters presented at scientific meetings, co-authored research podcasts, and co-authored a publication in a scientific journal.

The field of Interventional Radiology, and more specifically Interventional Oncology, is rapidly evolving to improve patient care with modern technology and minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Devane believes the future of cancer care, especially with liver tumors, will involve a combination of system therapy (medical oncology) and liver directed therapy (interventional oncology). His primary areas of interest are oncology, medical device design, and liver disease, and his research seeks to improve outcomes in patients with cancer and liver disease.
