Who is Dr. Youkey?

Jerry Youkey is Dean of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, where he is also the Associate Provost for Health Sciences. In addition, he is the Executive Vice President of Medical and Academic Affairs at Greenville Health System.

He graduated with a medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then served a rotating internship and general surgery residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, and a fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. 

Jerry was chief of the department of surgery and director of the peripheral vascular fellowship program at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. He also served in the United States Army Medical Corps and was honorably discharged in 1984 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. 

Jerry is certified by the American Board of Surgery in general vascular surgery. He is a member of several professional societies and has authored numerous books, abstracts and journal articles.

How Dr. Youkey’s research is transforming health care

With timely foresight and wise leadership, Jerry is at the helm of Greenville Health System’s academic efforts to answer the Upstate’s impending physician shortage. As the dean of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville, he works on both a macro and micro level with faculty and students to effectively train the physicians of the next generation.
