Lander University has been providing educational and cultural opportunities since its founding in 1872. Lander is now a coeducational, state-assisted, comprehensive, regional, four-year university with traditional liberal arts and science programs, and professional programs in business, education and nursing. Small class sizes, personal attention from experienced professors, unique opportunities in and outside the classroom – it’s all part of the Lander academic experience. With an enrollment of approximately 3,000 and an average class size of 23, providing for one-on-one interaction between students and professors, Lander offers everything you would expect from a public school, including price, but with a private-school atmosphere. Lander’s curriculum, with more than 60 areas of study, encourages students to explore the arts, humanities, sciences and mathematics. It offers eight different programs in teacher education including early childhood education with the option of Montessori endorsement, elementary education, multi-categorical special education, physical education, art, music, and three secondary education areas. Lander is situated on a wooded site of approximately 123 acres in the heart of Greenwood, S.C., which has a city population of approximately 23,000 and a county population exceeding 66,000. In addition to six major buildings erected since 1973, campus improvements include: new housing complexes; a new athletics and recreation complex; an equestrian center; renovations to older buildings; and extensive parking facilities.
